1. About this policy

Content Connect (ABN 56 162 555 240 ) (“Content Connect”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a data, insights and digital marketing consultancy based in Sydney, Australia. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and how you can access it or make a complaint. It applies to our website, our own marketing, and the work we do for clients.

2. Our two roles

We handle personal information in two different ways:

  • For our own business. This covers people who visit our website, contact us, subscribe to our updates, or work with us as clients, partners or suppliers. We decide how this information is used, and this policy governs it.
  • On behalf of our clients. When a client engages us for a marketing campaign, data audit, customer mapping or other consultancy project, we may have limited access to personal information the client holds, such as customer or campaign data. In that case we act as the client’s service provider. We use the information only to deliver the agreed services and follow the client’s instructions. The client’s own privacy policy applies to how they collected it. Section 5 explains how we handle client data.

3. What we collect and how

We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business. This may include:

  • Contact and enquiry details. Your name, email address, phone number, organisation, job title and the content of your messages. We collect these when you contact us, fill in a form, subscribe to updates, meet with us or engage our services.
  • Website and device information. Your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, pages viewed, time on site and how you arrived. We collect this through cookies and analytics tools (see section 4).
  • Campaign and interaction data. When we run digital campaigns, content experiences or competitions for clients, we may collect details you choose to provide (for example in a form or survey) and information about how you interact with the content. The collection notice for that campaign tells you who is collecting it and why.
  • Client-provided data. Limited personal information our clients share with us to deliver a project (see section 5).
  • Business relationship information. Details of clients, partners and suppliers needed to manage the relationship, including billing and correspondence records.

We work with Australian data partners to provide audience insights such as demographics, interests, media preferences and location analytics. These insights are provided to us in aggregated or de-identified form. We do not use them to identify individuals.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, religious or political information) and do not ask for it. If you do not provide information we ask for, we may not be able to respond to your enquiry or provide our services. You may deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym where that is practical.

4. How we use information, cookies and marketing

How we use it. We use personal information to:

  • respond to enquiries and provide, manage and invoice our services
  • plan, run and measure digital marketing campaigns for our clients
  • produce insights and reports for clients, which are generally aggregated or de-identified
  • understand how our website is used and improve it
  • send you updates about our services, where permitted (see below)
  • meet our legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.

We use personal information only for the purpose we collected it for, a related purpose you would reasonably expect, or as permitted or required by law. We do not sell personal information.

Cookies and analytics. Our website uses cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the site. This information is generally collected in a form that does not directly identify you. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Some parts of the site may not work properly if cookies are disabled.

Advertising and campaign measurement. When we run campaigns for ourselves or our clients, we may use tools from advertising platforms such as Google, Meta and LinkedIn to measure results and show relevant ads. These may use cookies, pixels or similar technologies. You can manage ad preferences in your account settings on those platforms.

Direct marketing. We may send you news and information about our services if you have agreed to receive it, or where the law otherwise allows. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can ask us to stop at any time using the contact details below. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

5. How we handle client data

In most projects we work with aggregated, de-identified or campaign-level data, and our access to identifiable client data is limited. When a client does give us access to personal information, we:

  • use it only to deliver the agreed services, under the client’s instructions and our agreement with them
  • limit access to the people who need it for the project
  • do not combine it with other data, or attempt to re-identify individuals, unless the client has authorised it and it is lawful
  • do not use it for our own marketing, or disclose it to anyone other than the client and approved service providers
  • return or securely delete it when the project ends, unless the law requires us to keep it
  • tell the client promptly if we become aware of a data breach affecting their information.

If you are a customer of one of our clients and have a question about your information, please contact that business first. We will help them respond to your request.

6. Who we share information with

We may disclose personal information to:

  • service providers who help us run our business, such as cloud hosting, email, file storage, analytics and accounting providers
  • advertising and technology platforms we use to run and measure campaigns
  • our clients, where the information was collected on their behalf
  • professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants
  • government bodies or others where required or authorised by law.

We share only what is needed for the purpose, and expect those parties to protect it.

Overseas disclosure. Some of our service providers, such as cloud, email and analytics platforms, store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where those providers operate. We take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in line with the APPs.

7. Automated decision-making

We use analytics and data modelling to segment audiences and produce marketing insights, such as which customer groups respond to a campaign. We do not use computer programs to make decisions about individuals that could significantly affect their rights or interests, such as decisions about eligibility, credit or pricing. If this changes, we will update this policy to explain the kinds of personal information used and the decisions involved.

8. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include access controls, secure passwords and multi-factor authentication, reputable cloud providers, and limiting access to people who need it.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy or to meet legal obligations. After that, we securely delete or de-identify it. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

9. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing, unless that would be unreasonable.

10. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
